Olivier Creed, the nose behind the House of Creed’s latest fragrance for women, Wind Flowers, explained that for this particular scent, he drew inspiration from the strength of a woman ‘flying through the air’ in some form of dance movement. This image, of a female dancer switching rapidly between different movements – perhaps, sometimes slow, sometimes fast with different twists and turns all coming together to form a graceful, fluid choreography – is the perfect metaphor for the Creed Wind Flowers perfume.

Female perfumes always almost evoke memories of flowers and powdery fragrances; of soft scents that are intimate yet safe and elusive; of aromas that tease and lightly draw you close as though their wearer were so delicate that a more powerful movement would crush them.

Well, I have, and it would not be an exaggeration to anyone who owns a Roja and already knows about the wonderful fantasy that is a Roja scent. For its latest launch, Apex by Roja, the maxim ‘experience is the best teacher’ is the only fitting description.

On September 8, 2022, in Lagos, 31 specially-curated guests united by the love for great scents and comprising fragrance collectors, luxury aficionados and the media were hosted by Montaigne place at the Z kitchen to a multi-sensory experience involving fine dining, delightful scents, deep conversation and a budding camaraderie. Underpinning it all and at the centre of the evening was the ‘scent of the hour’, Apex by Roja Parfums.

On arrival at the dinner after pre-dinner drinks, one was immediately drawn in by a large, leafy wreath, with the words APEX at its centre providing a green shade for the perfume.

Dotting this wreath were all the fruits and fruity notes that make up the new fragrance. From the introductory flavours of lemon, bergamot, mandarin and orange, to the slightly stronger scent of pineapple in the middle and a definitely powerful base note of juniper berries.

The bottle itself is square-shaped, with a black into green ombre effect from top to bottom. Inside this dark and mysterious bottle is Roja Apex, a fragrance that begins with a citrus-based top consisting of zesty lemon, bergamot, mandarin and refreshing orange.

Connecting us to our primal energies, the animal-like effects of leather, ambergris and musk lay in the shadows, bringing their sensual impulse to this highly-addictive new fragrance. Roja Apex celebrates the natural wonders of the world, honing in on those who roam it.

The result is a fruity, floral and chypre fragrance that is at once fresh as it is strong, not in the least overbearing, but incredibly sexy and unapologetically bold.

The brand might have created this as a masculine scent, but all the ladies at the event including yours truly, unanimously agreed that we had no reservations whatsoever in getting our hands on a bottle for ourselves!

The launch event delicately and with the utmost attention to detail delivered on the Apex ethos. From the delicious green signature cocktails at the pre-dinner reception to the entire decor and menu. It was an evening that was most befitting of the powerful fragrance that is Apex by Roja.

Roja Dove, the perfumer behind this new fragrance, said Apex was inspired by ‘primal instincts.’

“I have always said that we must not forget that we are animals. We’ve been using scent for millions of years to catch food, escape danger, and to find a mate. it is these primal instincts that inspired me to create Apex. [It] connects man and nature. The citrus opening represents the beginning of reaching your Apex with a bright blend of bergamot, lemon, mandarin and pineapple. Base notes of patchouli and fir balsam evoke the feeling of being surrounded by nature, while notes of leather add warmth and sensuality. We have also used sandalwood and frankincense to give it a spiritual feel,” explains Dove.

Since 2012, Louis Vuitton has invited famous designers from around the world to imagine experimental but functional furniture and design pieces for the Objets Nomades collection. From hammocks and folding stools to armchairs and TV screens, each limited edition object, numbered and signed, pushes back and goes beyond the limits of leather to highlight the complex craftsmanship and creative innovation of the house. This collection pays homage to special orders from Louis Vuitton’s past – such as the iconic Malle-Lit produced in 1874 for French explorer Pierre Savorgnan de Brazza – while celebrating the decidedly contemporary visions of a diverse group of international designers.

Versace

Bed and bathroom linen, table services, living room, and lifestyle:  Versace’s interior design collection offers to truly transform your home into a luxury Italian palace paying homage to the Greek mythological character Medusa. From bed sets to wallpaper, as well as bathrobes, plates, and candles, the full art de vivre line from Versace fashions a veritable Ali Baba cave adapted to a more Italian lifestyle.

Hermès

Hermès is one luxury fashion brand that, without a doubt, offers one of the most iconic interior design lines of all time. Before other luxury houses set out to conquer the art of living, the brand was already proposing to adopt its unique lines at home. The house unveiled a complete line of office accessories, plates, chairs, cushions, blankets, or even board games, all available in noble materials and fabrics with a refined taste that defines the reputation of the house.

Christian Lacroix Maison

Having become essential, Christian Lacroix’s house line even has its own Instagram account. Called L’Odyssée, the collection edited by Designers Guild is conceived as an escapade, which takes us to a chimerical country and celebrates the spirit of freedom through its printed, woven, and embroidered furnishing fabrics, available in a variety of materials and colours. Wallpapers are printed on luxurious non-woven and vinyl bases as well as cushions, rugs, and other accessories. Panorama with a dreamlike landscape, swirls of multicoloured feathers, Japanese-style gardens, giant wisteria, undulating seaweed, and half-flower, half-bird creatures accompany us on this wonderful journey.

Off-White

In 2019, Virgil Abloh partnered with Ikea on a design collection that sold out in just a few minutes. However, those that missed it can still peruse Off-White’s “Homeware” collection. The latter is composed of a set of ceramic dishes (cups, ashtray, plates), as well as bath linen, such as a bathrobe and several towels branded with the logo of Abloh’s brand. Pyjamas, plaids, cushions, and other ecological straws with the inscription “Home” complete the entire collection.

Selecting the best perfume from the Essence de Parfum collection

When Roja Dove set out to make this new collection, he wanted it to be “… an extension of who you are, or maybe, who you want to be.” And so, each note was carefully selected and blended together with others to create unique fragrances that announce your presence even before you walk into any space, and continue to communicate your essence long after you have left.

There is the warm and fruity 51, named after Roja Parfums flagship boutique at 51 Burlington Arcade and the sweet and sensual Danger which is a blend of grapefruit, jasmine and ylang-ylang nestling on a bed of sandalwood, tonka bean and musk.

Also part of this collection is Scandal, whose notes gives off a powerful scent that leaves you with nowhere to hide. But, if you want something a bit more subtle and mysterious, then Enigma, which I have nicknamed ‘the playful tease’, may be what you need.

“Reckless maybe, foolish never,” says Roja Dove of this spicy scent whose peppery quality will be the perfect accompaniment to the woman who is not afraid to take risks. Risqué is the drier, more masculine scent of this collection and would fit the woman who does not do labels, while Elixir, the flagship product of this collection released earlier, starts out sharp and then effortlessly eases into a sweet, soft and sensual scent that will create memories of pure pleasure in the minds of anyone who gets a whiff.

Experiencing the Roja Essence de Parfum collection at Montaigne Place

Montaigne Place is Nigeria’s foremost luxury fragrance, skincare, cosmetics & well-being company. Once the Essence de Parfum launched here in the country, we were invited to experience the scents of this collection.

Of all seven, 51 is my favourite. It was the first fragrance I tried, and it was the only one I wanted to immediately walk out with once its notes hit my nose. Featuring top notes of lemon and mandarin with bergamot, the accompanying heart notes of orange, rose, lily, ylang-ylang and raspberry bolstered by base notes of vanilla, cinnamon and sandalwood, create a strong and sensual scent with a hint of softness that, for Roja Dove, is the “epitome of elegance” and is for women who “love luxury, modernity and the unexpected.”

Elixir also caught my attention, as did Reckless. The latter’s peppery and spicy fragrance is sure to grab the attention of whoever it comes in contact with, with its prominent top note of orange that almost immediately gives way to the jasmine in its heart notes which is enhanced by the pink pepper and cinnamon that form a part of its base notes.

In all, the Roja Essence de Parfum collection offers some of the best choices of luxury fragrances for women. There is something for every woman, and you cannot go wrong with this set.
